Arsenal to name Per Mertesacker as new captain - report
The German, who has been a mainstay in Arsene Wenger's starting line-up since signing from Werder Bremen in 2011, will succeed Mikel Arteta in the role, according to Goal. Arteta left at the end of last season to work alongside Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, bringing an end to his five-year spell in north London. And it looks likely that Mertesacker will now be given the armband ahead of defensive partner Laurent Koscielny, who will be named as vice-captain. GETTY
